From Building Software to Building Engineering Organizations

My professional journey has followed the expanding boundaries of software engineering.

I began in SAP consulting and software development, working directly with enterprise applications, data, integration, and production systems. Those early roles established a practical understanding of how software behaves inside complex businesses—and how technical decisions affect operations far beyond the code itself.

As a software engineer and software architect, my focus expanded from implementing components to designing platforms. At webMethods and SAP, I worked on enterprise integration products, application-server capabilities, adapters, messaging, web services, metadata systems, and distributed architectures.

Architecture naturally led to integration leadership. Systems rarely create their full value in isolation; they must exchange information, coordinate processes, and operate as part of a larger enterprise landscape. As an integration architect, I learned to work across technical, organizational, product, and business boundaries.

That experience prepared me to become CTO and Managing Director of PROTEPO. My responsibilities expanded beyond architecture into people, clients, financial performance, contracts, partnerships, strategy, and company operations. I was no longer responsible only for designing systems. I was responsible for building an organization capable of delivering them.

Subsequent roles as Principal Software Architect and Director of Enterprise Architecture broadened my scope again—from individual platforms to enterprise-wide technology direction, architecture governance, investment strategy, shared capabilities, and executive advisory.

Returning to the CTO role allowed me to combine architecture, engineering quality, product delivery, consulting, and organizational leadership. As Director of Software Engineering and later Director of Digital Engineering, I applied that combined experience to larger global organizations, high-volume platforms, digital ecosystems, operational reliability, and engineering transformation.

Today, I bring these stages together as an AI-augmented engineering leader.

AI is not a departure from my professional journey. It is its next progression: applying decades of software engineering, architecture, integration, organizational leadership, and operational discipline to a new generation of engineering capabilities.
